25 years? Were frosted tips and butterfly clips really THAT LONG ago? The Kansas City Royals’ past 25 years are a tale of two extremes, perennial cellar dwellers or top of the mountain. Regardless, throughout the good, bad, and ugly, there’s plenty of guys who deserve some love as I name my Royals’ Quarter Century Team.
Fantasy Baseball - Part 2
As my perfect game continues, I can only imagine one team fit to face Jackie Robinson and the Kansas City Monarchs. On this day of all days, a team comprised of the men who built the bridge across the chasm of baseball prejudice, and those who crossed it, feels like the only option.

      Fantasy Baseball - Part 1
When Opening Day rolls around, I can’t help but think of all that once was great in Kansas City baseball. I love my Royals, but mostly, I think about the Monarchs, and what it would have been like to see those legends play at old Muehlebach Field. Since I will likely never see a perfect game, I decided to write one.
FCS: Best of 2024
No matter how aware I am of it, this exact article sneaking up on me is becoming a bit of an annual tradition. I am always thankful for this time to reflect on the year that was. So as I recount the “Best of 2024”, and the “Biggest Loss” of the year, it is important to remember that the places named within were not necessarily the very best in KC of a given category or that they were brand new, they were just the best of things that were brand new to me. That distinction is always important.

      Mr. Dignan’s Wildcard Ride
There is a magic to October baseball that is beyond definition. During the scorching dog days of summer, I sit at the ballpark sipping on a cold beer dreaming of the days where I can throw on a hoodie and watch this sport I love take on new life. While it has been a long 9 year wait, it seems so short after the previous 29. There was always a faith that we could make it back to this place because unlike the last run, this generation had seen it before.

      Waiting for Tonight
I remember the first time my mom told me about Caitlin Clark. Even before I watched her play, it seems there was something special about her. The same could be said for Paige Bueckers. We were supposed to see this match-up several times over the years but we never did. And now, this night, three years in the making, is only hours away, and in my nervousness, I write.

      Manhattan Knight
As Grand Boulevard re-opens after another successful Big XII Basketball Tournament, I think back on my first year as a fan of a Big XII school. As a passionate UCF fan, the addition of the Knights to the conference gave me a number of opportunities to support my team this year, including a memorable day in Manhattan, Kansas. These were some of the highlights.
